1.            Assignment Title: Adobe Photo Shop

2.            Uses in the Classroom: Adobe Photo Shop allows students to take photographs, existing or created to analyze, compare and contrast pictures that are visual representations of an assignment, i.e. students can show an aerial picture of the town that Osama Bin Laden had been captured in and highlight types of surrounding buildings, such as homes, schools, stores etc. A second picture could then crop the same picture down to the actual compound and analyze the strategic maneuvers needed to successfully overtake the compound. 

3.             Issues to Consider: Adobe Photoshop is expensive, due to it’s monthly cost. The other issue with the program is that is freezes periodically and takes up a lot of start up storage disc space when working in the program. There needs to be the appropriate amount of disc space available in order for students to work in the program. Teachers may need to assign one or two computers with Adobe Photoshop installed in order to limit some of the above issues.

Info Graphics

1.            Assignment Title: Info graphics- Building Leadership Capacity through Reciprocal Accountability

2.            Uses in the Classroom: 

With the implementation of the CCSS info graphics can help a teacher in visually developing student learning outcomes by showing how the standards build upon each other. Students can also visually construct an info graphic to show understanding of the content the teacher has instructed them on. 

3.            Issues to Consider: 

Teachers need to be sure they fully understand the what the new CCSS are asking students to be able to do. Students will be asked to explain their thinking both verbally and in writing. Developing an info graphic should be used to support and compliment a students learning of the material.

Instructional Video

        
1. Assignment Title: Instructional Video- Building Leadership Capacity

2           Uses in the Classroom: 

Instructional videos can be used in the classroom by teachers to model specific skills the students are to master, i.e. how to annotate a text, how to develop text dependent questions etc. Also students can video tape each other and show the video as a review in order to critique and give feedback on the assignment they were to complete. 

3.            Issues to Consider: 

Understanding how to edit video takes time for both teachers and students. Teachers need to plan accordingly the time it will take to teach students not only how to video, but also how to edit both picture and audio.

EDU 642 Screencast Assignment

1.            Assignment Title: Screencast

2.            Uses in the Classroom: Teachers can use a screencast to show students how to use a newly introduced software program as they follow along on their devices or computer. The screencast can also be used to instruct students on how to search for resources when doing projects.  English Learner students can use screencasting to practice their language skills and be able to listen back and hear their progress. 

3.            Issues to Consider: Licenses to use a screencast software program is something that will arise, especially if using on a school wide basis. Student computers, devices etc. will need to be equipped to operate the latest versions of screencast software.

EDU 642 Digital Story

Here is an iMovie featuring my daughter Jessi.  It starts with her as a baby and ends with a picture of her and I walking down the aisle this November at her wedding.  I am very proud of the woman she has become!

1.            Assignment Title: Digital Story

2.            Uses in the Classroom: Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of how to create a Digital Story by using narrative, pictures or video. A teacher can use digital stories as a project based activity where students can present their project with video or pictures. As an example the story I wanted to tell was using pictures and a song that would give the viewer an idea of what my daughter means to me, the journey from infancy to her wedding. You'll notice in the frame second from last the facial expression that was captured, unbeknownst to me by the photographer. Fitting ending to my journey as the father of my baby girl, moving on to being her own woman and ultimately being part of her new family with her husband.  
       Creating an iMovie also allows English Learners an opportunity to express themselves through a variety of presentation styles that may not always present themselves in other activities.

3.            Issues to Consider: Making an iMovie can be difficult if you do not give clear instructions and move students through the process step by step. Software costs, devices and computers need to be able to run the latest software versions in order to limit frustrations from students and staff while designing their projects.
