Assignment Title: Glogster

Uses in the Classroom: Glogster can be used in the classroom for
students to contrast and compare an assignment using a digital interactive
poster format. Print, pictures, video can all be used within the assignment. It
could also be used as a culminating project where students can describe and
analyze not only their own work but those of their peers.

Issues to Consider: Glogster is easily understood but there is a cost
for the program. Schools and/or districts need to take into consideration the
cost of the program for students to access. If students are to post or embed
their Glogster into a blog or wiki, they need to make sure they follow the
directions precisely in order for this action to be completed.

Summary: Teachers and
Technology: A technological divide.
Clark
and Zagarell stated that in 2000 nearly every public school system had access
to the internet, yet there still remains a technological divide. They raised
several questions to help address why there has been a lack of progress by many
teachers in implementing technology to support instruction, “Do schools
implement technology to the same degree? How much technology should be utilized
in the classrooms? How technologically savvy are teachers? Why are some
teachers resistant to technology?”
In
summary the article gives several reasons why there is a technological
divide and how the integration of
technology into the current school culture has made it difficult to implement
effectively. District and site administration must lead the implementation
effort by providing ongoing and consistent professional development. Teachers
need to shift their pedagogical thinking in order to “think outside the box”
and view technology as a support, rather than a device that will help today’s
students be more successful in the classroom.
Hands
on professional development, infrastructure, hardware and software district
wide are just a few areas that are essential in order for the gap caused by the
technological divide to lessen.
